Harry Potter is the most recognizable fictional character in our world – the boy with the lightning scar and glasses. Despite a clear description by Rowling, we seem to imagine him to be attractive – very attractive. Devastation and dissatisfaction filled us when Daniel Radcliffe took the role with his unsightly face. Suddenly, the disappointment we felt, when the letter from Hogwarts didn’t come, vanished.
In the face of this letdown of Radcliffe being casted and the peril of Radcliffe’s face itself, we watched Philosopher’s Stone… and Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire and Order of Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince. We could no longer picture that impossibly gorgeous face we thought Harry Potter had. Instead, we could only picture Radcliffe - but over a long period of time, we accepted him with great voluminous reluctance.
Does this mean we will stop criticizing actors purely on their looks? Maybe. Does this mean we will stop being so shallow? Maybe. Does this mean we will stop checking out Taylor Lautner’s* undeniable 8-pack? Hell no.
